Plantcestors and Celestial Guardians Mural Commemoration

This year, Maple Village began a meaningful mural project honoring the Tongva origin story of the Seven Sisters/Pleiades rising as celestial protectors, alongside the ancestral plants rooted in the soil our school calls home.
Created by artist Kumu Sea Lee, the mural invites our community to deepen its connection to the earth, the skies above, and the living traditions of the first peoples of this land.
As the mural comes to life, it stands as a reminder of relationship, remembrance, and the beauty of learning together.
At the beginning of the school year, members of the Tongva Nation offered a land acknowledgement for the campus and project, helping to open the space with intention, gratitude, and connection to the land.
They will be returning to culminate the project with prayer, song and blessing.
