Look, we love brunch. We love brunch. But if the idea of waiting 90 minutes for eggs benedict while passive-aggressively eyeing the table that got seated before you sounds like a nightmare — same. Mother’s Day weekend in Long Beach doesn’t have to mean elbowing strangers for the last mimosa. This city has a whole lot going on this weekend that doesn’t require a reservation, a credit card hold, or the patience of a saint.
Whether you’re celebrating mom, celebrating yourself (valid), or just looking for a reason to get out of the house, Long Beach is delivering this Saturday and Sunday. Here’s everything worth putting on your radar for May 9–11, 2026 — in true LBC fashion.
4th Annual Halfway to Halloween Hootenanny
Date: Saturday, May 9, 2026
Time: 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM (VIP entrance at 12:00 PM)
Address: Rancho Los Cerritos, 4600 Virginia Rd, Long Beach, CA 90807
Website: ObscuraLBC.com
Admission: Ticketed event | 21+ only
Presented by: Obscura LB (Festival Obscura & Craft Beer LB)
Halloween is still months away and somehow Long Beach is already throwing a party about it — and honestly, we respect it completely. The 4th Annual Halfway to Halloween Hootenanny is back after a hiatus, rising from the grave bigger and bolder than ever at the historic Rancho Los Cerritos near Bixby Knolls. This is the kind of event that makes you proud to live here.
Your ticket gets you unlimited samples of craft beer, wine, spirits, kombucha, and Halloween-inspired specialty cocktails — with a lineup of local and regional distilleries that’s longer than ever this year. Past guests have included Beachwood Distilling, Long Beach Beer Lab, Cellador Ales, Three Weavers, Smog City Brewing, Paperback Brewing, Frogtown Brewing, Vampire Wines, Kyla Kombucha, Common Space, Brouwerij West, and a whole lot more. The full lineup is subject to change but the vibe is non-negotiable: spooky, sippable, and very Long Beach.
Beyond the drinks, there’s the Macabre Marketplace — an expanded bazaar packed with creepy art, collectibles, local artists, and offbeat vendors. Past vendors have included Mood Poison, Bat In Your Belfry, Memento Mori Goods, Monster Tees, Death by Chocolate, and more. DJ sets by Paul E Wogg and DJ Buttercuts keep the energy up all afternoon, with live musical guests to be announced. Food will be available for purchase from a rotating crew of local vendors.
A portion of proceeds benefits Rancho Los Cerritos, a 501(c)(3) supporting the arts and the museum. So you’re drinking for a good cause. That’s basically community service. Tickets are available at ObscuraLBC.com — grab yours before they vanish into the night.
Long Beach Ride Group at Sports Basement
Date: Saturday, May 9, 2026
Time: Meet at 7:30 AM, wheels roll at 8:00 AM
Address: Sports Basement Long Beach (meet in front of the store)
Website: sportsbasement.com
Admission: Free
Okay early birds, this one’s for you. Sports Basement Long Beach hosts their Long Beach Ride Group every second and fourth Saturday of the month — and May 9 is the second Saturday, which means it’s happening tomorrow morning. Get your gear ready tonight.
Meet up at 7:30 AM in front of the Long Beach Sports Basement location, sign the waiver, get the route details, and roll out at 8 AM sharp. This is a group ride — social, community-driven, and a genuinely great way to see Long Beach from two wheels before the rest of the city has had its first cup of coffee. Required gear: helmet and bike lights front and rear. Bring water, snacks or gels, some cash, your phone, a pump, a patch kit, and an extra tube because flat tires don’t care that it’s the weekend.
Pro tip: leave the earbuds at home. This is a group ride and communication matters — which, honestly, is also a solid life philosophy. It’s free, it’s active, it’s community, and it’s Long Beach at its best. What more do you need?
