Okay, Long Beach, we need to talk. Just when we thought we could finally pull our hoodies out of hibernation and get a pot of chicken corn chowder going, Mother Nature got wild and now we’re melting down. We’re under another extreme heat warning in the LBC, and it’s not just hot. It’s fucking hot. It’s “why did I leave the house” hot.
So here’s the game plan: keep it cool, keep it hydrated, and keep it local. I’ve rounded up the best events in Long Beach this weekend, with a mix of morning moves, air-conditioned hangs, and evening plans for when the sun finally backs off. Your weekend of things to do in Long Beach starts right here.

Both Saturday and Sunday from 3:30 to 4:30, artist TETRIS hosts Live Drawing with the “Long Beach” and “Compton” Chicken Friends (yes, chickens, and yes, you need to see this). Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30 brings Storytime with Charlie, Frankie, and Sara Moore of Silverlining Stuffies, an adorable one for the little ones.
All weekend long, DJ BassFeathers and DJ fear in the typing pool keep the vibes going, plus acoustic and electric sets by Chollas Lake. Indoor art + cold drinks + free = the ultimate heat wave survival strategy.

Romance girlies, this one’s for you. Author Elena Marie is popping into Downtown Long Beach to sip, shop, and chat about her spicy debut, Nine Months: The First Book of The Castille Chronicles. We’re talking billionaire romance, a one-night stand, a marriage of convenience, and a slow burn. Basically every trope you secretly screenshot on BookTok.
It gets better: The Mom-Up Shop is a curated vintage store that funds Project WomanGood, which helps women rebuild their lives after abuse. So you can grab a signed book, browse some vintage treasures, and support an amazing local cause all in one stop. Hot book, cool shop, good cause. That’s a Saturday.

Once the sun goes down, it’s time to get loud. DiPiazza’s is hosting a full-on Irish Punk Night with a stacked lineup: Whisky Sunday, Cutthroat Clovers, Brick Top Blaggers, and Hounds of Belfast. Four bands for ten bucks? That’s the best deal in town.
DiPiazza’s has been a family-owned Long Beach institution since 1984, serving pizza, cocktails, and live music, and this lineup is pure pints-up, fists-pumping, sing-along chaos in the best way. It starts at 8, when the heat finally starts to cool off. Wear your boots, bring your friends and stay hydrated (beer counts, right?).

Foxy By Nature Beer Release Party

You did Pilates. You earned a beer. Head up to Bixby Knolls for Beachwood Brewing’s Foxy By Nature release party, a limited-edition IPA brewed with the Catalina Island Conservancy to celebrate the island fox’s comeback. It’s 6.7% ABV with a zesty lime vibe, and every Foxy By Nature pint or 4-pack you buy helps fund island restoration and wildlife protection.
It’s family-friendly, too, with raffle giveaways and an exclusive co-branded tee if you join or upgrade your Conservancy membership. An ice-cold IPA in a shady taproom on a scorching Sunday afternoon is not a want. It’s a need. Free entry, cold beer, good cause. Sunday sorted.
Stay Cool, Long Beach
So yeah, the hoodies and chowder will have to wait a little longer. But with free art, punk rock, spicy romance, sunrise Pilates, and cold beer, there are plenty of events in Long Beach to keep you busy while we wait for fall to show up.
Please take care of yourselves out there. Drink more water than you think you need, check on your neighbors and elders, and don’t leave pets or kids in the car. Not even for a minute.
