ANTHONY FAUCI\nFormer Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (1984-2022) and Chief Medical Advisor to the President (2021-2022)\, Dr. Fauci’s 38 years of public service spanned seven presidential administrations. He led US research and global response to HIV/AIDS\, SARS\, Ebola\, and the COVID-19 pandemic.\nFauci oversaw an extensive research portfolio devoted to the prevention\, diagnosis\, and treatment of infectious and immune-mediated diseases. He was at the forefront of HIV/AIDS research efforts\, and is recognized for his pivotal contributions to our current understanding of the disease and the development of preventative therapies and medications. During President George W. Bush’s administration\, he was one of the principal architects of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief\, which helped save more than 25 million lives in the developing world.\nThroughout his career\, Fauci faced his research and his critics with an unwavering devotion to science\, a deep concern and empathy for those suffering from disease\, and a human-centered pragmatism that ultimately led to extraordinary results. Fauci’s 2024 memoir\, On Call: A Doctor’s Journey in Public Service\, chronicles his life from his childhood in Brooklyn to his career as one of the most influential figures in public health.\nFauci’s trust in the scientific approach above political agendas was a driving force in his career. He was awarded both the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the National Medal of Science by President George W. Bush. He holds 58 honorary doctoral degrees from US and global universities\, and has authored\, coauthored\, and edited more than 1\,400 scientific publications.\nFollowing his retirement from the NIAID\, Dr. Fauci joined Georgetown University as a Distinguished University Professor in the School of Medicine.
