SUMMARY:Flesh&Edibles. Art Exhibit by Linda Estrela Ikeda
DESCRIPTION:Flesh&Edibles speaks directly to the intersection of culinary culture\nand physical vulnerability-themes right at the heart of my professional\nbackground. At the same time\, Flesh&Edibles is a visual exploration of how\nFood we consume directly alters our physique\, minds and how we\nare perceived by our society.\nMy collection was perceived a long time ago even before I went to college.\nIt explicitly illustrates the diverse shapes and physical transformations of\nThe human form based on the biochemical and psychological effects of\nsustenance. It’s a personal project as I was afflicted with an environmental\nmalady since 2020.\nThis subject is not theoretical for me. It’s a lifetime archive of personal survival.\nI have been deeply conscious of what enters my body since I was 12 years old\nDue to a heart condition since I was 12.\nMost recently\, my practice took some harrowing turn in 2021.\nLead Toxicity affected my profession as well as my whole well-being.\nThis art exhibition act as a retrospective of lifelong relationship with bodily\naesthetics and better nutrition.\nI chose to illustrate mostly the beautiful and artistic work.\nI selected to showcase a cohesive body of work for your eyes only.\nActually\, I have been “conceiving” these images since the late 1990’s.\nThese are mostly on the aesthetic sort of views which could be based\non someone’s experiences.\nLinda Estrela Ikeda

SUMMARY:33rd Annual Long Beach QFilm Festival
DESCRIPTION:The Long Beach QFilm Festival (QFilms) is the longest-running film festival in Southern Los Angeles\, and the only festival in the area dedicated to screening films showcasing the stories and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community and increasing visibility for independent LGBTQ+ and allied filmmakers.\nQFilms’ inception stems from the inspiration experienced by QFilms founder Robert Cano after participating in the historic 1993 March on Washington for Lesbian\, Gay\, and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation. With seed money provided by The LGBTQ Center Long Beach\, the inaugural festival took place in June 1993 in the Student Union at California State University Long Beach to a sold-out crowd. Since then\, QFilms has screened more than 300 films from over 30 countries. In the years since QFilms’ founding\, the festival has grown to a multi-event experience featuring receptions and community building opportunities to further strengthen our local LGBTQ+ communities.\nEach year\, the festival screens more than 50 films\, with approximately 10 feature films and more than 40 short films grouped by target demographic. Films are screened at the Art Theatre of Long Beach\, one of the oldest movie theatres in Long Beach. Many films include post-screening Q&A discussions with filmmakers. Audiences also vote on their favorite films throughout the festival. Receptions are hosted each night at The Center\, allowing audiences to engage socially with The Center and learn more about its programs and services.

SUMMARY:Japanese Umami Workshop: Discover Koji\, Amazake & Salt Koji
DESCRIPTION:A guided tasting and learning workshop all about koji and Japanese fermentation. For home cooks\, chefs\, and foodies of all backgrounds!\n\n\nThe Japanese Umami Workshop by Long Beach Koji introduces you to the world of koji — the ancient Japanese fermentation culture that creates natural sweetness\, aroma\, and deep savory flavor. You’ll explore how koji’s enzymes transform simple ingredients into nutrient‑rich\, umami‑packed foods. \nThis workshop blends culture\, science\, and sensory experience to help you understand — and taste — how koji and umami elevate everyday cooking. \nAn Interactive Workshop for the Koji-curious\nSunday\, August 2\, 2026 – 2pm to 3:30pm @ Partake Long Beach \nDuring the workshop\, you will… \n\nlearn the basics of cooking with koji from a Japanese fermentation expert\nenjoy freshly made amazake\ntake part in a guided umami tasting\nlearn how ingredients like kombu (kelp)\, shiitake\, and katsuobushi (bonito flakes) build layers of savory depth\nget hands‑on experience making your own salt koji\n\nEvery participant will go home with 1 pound of fresh organic koji from Long Beach Koji\, ready to use in your own cooking. \nWhat is Umami?\nUmami is the fifth basic taste — savory\, rich\, and deeply satisfying. It comes from natural glutamates found in foods like mushrooms\, kombu (seaweed)\, and koji. First identified in Japan in 1908\, umami signals “protein” to the human body and gives foods their comforting depth and roundness. \nWho is Long Beach Koji?\nLong Beach Koji was founded by Masako Kodama\, a certified Japanese Fermentation Professional. Her work blends scientific precision with the cultural heritage of Japanese fermentation\, bringing koji to Southern California in a way that is both authentic and accessible. Long Beach Koji produces fresh\, small batch koji made from organic rice grown in California by Lopes Family Farm\, and crafted in collaboration with Sawtelle Sake in Los Angeles. We offer educational workshops and are developing partnerships with local chefs and restaurateurs to explore new ways of bringing traditional Japanese koji into modern cooking. \nwww.longbeachkoji.com
